HOW
TO GET A LIBRARY CARD:
Any resident of Manchester may get a free card to borrow materials.
You will need to show a photo ID and proof of Manchester residence (a piece
of mail sent to you recently works well, like a utility bill). You must
have your library card with you EVERY TIME you want to borrow materials from
the library or use an Internet computer at the library. Children must
have a parent's or legal guardian's signature (and the parent/guardian must
show photo ID) to obtain a library card. There
is a $1.00 replacement fee for a lost library card.
Unless
a book has been reserved by someone else, it can usually be renewed twice by
taking it to the library or by renewing
online. Items may not be renewed over the phone. There is generally
no limit on the number of books you may borrow; however, you may borrow no more
than 10 books from the "NEW" adult fiction section, and library staff
reserves the right to limit the number of items borrowed
from the same subject area.
Magazines: 3 weeks.
There is no limit on the number of magazines you may borrow.
"Feature film" and children's videocassettes and DVDs: 1 week
They are due 1 hour before closing time of due date. You may borrow a maximum of 12 'regular' DVDs and 8 Blu-Ray DVDs.
Non-fiction videos: 3 weeks
These are travel, gardening, fitness, documentaries etc. with a Dewey Decimal call number.
There
is no limit to the number of non-fiction videos you may borrow.
Music on compact disc or cassette: 3 weeks.
8 per card.
RETURNS / OVERDUES:
When the library is closed, all materials except Museum Passes
can be returned in the book return deposit boxes
located outside of each Manchester library building.
Overdue fees are charged if items are returned after closing time on the date they are due.
Fines:
All adult items: 15 cents per item per day overdue
All children's items, except videocassettes and DVDs: 1 cent per item per day
overdue
Overdue children's videocassettes and DVDs: 15 cents per item per day overdue
Items that are lost or damaged will be charged a replacement cost plus a processing
fee of up to $5.00.
USE
THE LIBRARY FROM HOME:
Use the library's computerized
catalog to look up materials 24/7. Search our free health, business,
and other databases, check your library account, and reserve or renew materials.
Manchester residents, please note that the library has a bookmobile delivery service that can visit you monthly. Please call the Mary Cheney Library (860-643-2471) to request bookmobile service.
